The Sony Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar DT T* 16-80mm F3.5-4.5 SAL1680Z Alpha A-Mount is Standard Zoom Lens that is a professional-grade 5x zoom lens specifically designed for the Sony DT Alpha and Minolta DSLR cameras. It is a is a Carl Zeiss branded lens featuring a Vario-Sonnar design. The optics of this lens have been optimized for smaller APS-C image sensors used within these cameras. With a crop factor of 1.5x, the equivalent 35mm focal length for this lens helps to increase contrast and reduce lens flare. The lens uses 62mm filters, which won’t turn during focusing or zooming. This Sony 16-80mm lens feels relatively light,  too as far as lenses go and balances in at 15.7 oz (445g).

This lens is incredible well-made and has very tight tolerance on the exterior. This lens is also fairly light weight considering the f/3.5-4.5 aperture and 16-80mm focal range. The lens hood is included and fits perfect. When the lens mounts to the camera it is very comfortable and firmly locks into place. The zoom is very smooth and has a nice reducing  it, so when you’re aimed downward it doesn’t zoom out on you. The focus is also smooth and relatively quick, although it’s not SSM technology.

In addition to that the 16-80mm lens has anti-flare T* Coating that is supposed to help with flare. The aperture eye has 7 blades which results in gorgeous circular specular highlights, and silky smooth bokeh’s!! The Digital Technology (DT) designation means that this lens is ideal for use with APS-C size sensor cameras.
