Description
The Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM ‘C’ Contemporary Lens for Pentax is a 4.1x zoom lens for APS-C format cameras. It has a variable f/2.8-4 maximum aperture, silent focusing and high speed auto focus motor (uses Sigma’s ‘Hypersonic Motor’ for quiet autofocus), optical stabilisation and a closest focusing distance of 22cm throughout the zoom range. This lens was produced in ‘Contemporary’ category of compact general-purpose zooms for everyday photography (it was announced at Photokina in 2012).
This lens covers several angles of view, from wide to telephoto as well as offering a large aperture of f/2.8 at the 17mm focal length. It provides a bright image through the viewfinder and enables photographers to easily check focusing and composition. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 22cm and a magnification of 0.36x making it ideal for close-up photography as well as landscape and macro photography too. Its unusually close focusing to just 22cm (hence the word ‘Macro’ in the lens name). The optical design uses a series ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glasses and aspherical elements to provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and high image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to suppress flare and surface reflections for improved contrast in bright conditions.
The latest 17-70mm offers some pretty clear advantages over the average 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens. It provides extra zoom range, being both slightly wider and usefully longer in the telephoto range. This lens has a focal range equivalent to 25.5-105mm on a 35mm lens
This Sigma 17-70mm lens weighs around 465g, which is quite lightweight.
